I'm Back in North Carolina

Hi everyone I'm back in the Outer Banks of North Carolina for the winter. I'm working at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton, North Carolina and it is nice. Right now many birds have migrated here for the winter and it is one of the premier spots for birding. Here I got a nice picture of a Great Egret. I have been away from the blog getting settled in my new/old home. Being back in North Carolina feels good and I'm enjoying my stay.

I'm told over 400 different species migrate through this area. I will be blogging my photographs and slide shows of these birds and lighthouses. There are seven lighthouses that dot the North Carolina coast line that are remarkable to see. Also the history about the area and the building of the lighthouses is fascinating.

To my history buffs do you know about the Life Saving Service here along the coast? Well I am going to tell you about it as I blog weekly about the area.

The great thing about Cape Hatteras National Seashore is the unspoiled beaches that allow for shore birds, turtles to breed here. Four different types of turtles come here from April to mid October to lay eggs on the beaches of Hatteras and further down the coast. The loggerhead, Leatherback, Kemp Ridley and Green turtle are on federal and state endangered list. Also shore birds like the piping plover, oyster bird are endangered and this is a great place for them to breed mainly for the open unspoiled beach area.

Mix this in with surf fisherman who are use to driving on the beaches and the need to restrict certain areas has caused some issues. However this blog is about reconnecting with my visitors and readers and taking more pictures of birds, lighthouses and turtles are coming.
