Pettigrew State Park

Pettigrew offers overnight camping sites at 15 dollars a night until April it goes up to 18 dollars a night. Also it has boat ramps as well as several hiking trails with overlooks to the lake.

This was the third largest plantation in North Carolaina. It was built right on Phelps Lakes by an enslaved community of 200 slaves and also white labors who all worked for Josh Collins. The staple crops were rice and lumber. A mill was run on the property and everything went in and out by the canal system dug by the slaves. It took them two years and the canal goes out to the Albermarle Sound.
