Well it has been a minute. I do mean a minute too. So what is going on? Well I went to a movie on Thanksgiving "Ninja Assiaians" It was horrible. The west doesn't know how to make good king fu movies. The west has not made cliche movies in decades. So a big disappointment. I got up the on Black Friday at 4 am and went to Bestbuy for the new flat screen 32inch tv now in the living room. Yes I made a consumer purchase of great magnitude. A good sale too. I love it. Where have I been. Working, playing and mostly drinking coffee and observing people. Here is my question "Why are we intimidated by people living their lives?" Seriously I find many people have a hard time embracing ordinary everyday blessings.
You know when some one shows up to volunteer at a state park because they love nature. Elders who desire to give wisdom, love and service yet they are met with cynicism's and fear. The other question is why are there flies flying daily in my coffee shop? I want a fly free morning just once. I don't believe we are in a recession any more. I believe we are mentally, spiritually and physically recalibrating our beings. We have over indulged on everything in society. It reminds me of going to the store at Woolworth and standing in the toy section with only five dollars. Back in the seventies five dollars at Woolworth's for me was like having gold in hand. I couldn't make up my mind whether to buy the bob a bat or the jack rocks. Now the deal was I could get both but I also wanted to get a hot dog and coke from the cafe in the hospital. They had the best hot dogs and coke. That cost exactly 1.04 So buying the two toys would leave me with only just a dollar and my hope was to find four pennies as I walked home. My house was on the main street of our town. On South Main Street you could find the hospital and L.H.Brooks and Brothers funeral home. Balance life at the tender age of 10 had balance. You see the problem with buying the bop a bat and jackets was I sucked at both. My sister on the other hand was an expert. So the dilemmia was these toys would see limited playing action by me and of course end up in my sisters hands more than mine.
In other words I would just be buying toys for my sister and this was not my motive. Now what I could buy the toy gun and caps. This is what I longed for but in our household girls didn't play with guns only boys. I loved cowboys and Indians, G.I. Joe and my Jane West doll. She came with a horse and only Belk Leggit sold her accessories which I couldn't afford with just five dollars. Plus the strict instructions from my grandmother not to spend all of my five dollars and to bring home at least two dollar change. What's in your SAVINGS ACCOUNT?" The truth is everyone got caught holding those i.o.u. notes like in the game of LIFE.
Savings. We had savings accounts and Christmas accounts. I loved putting the money away. It was awesome and I loved spending it on Christmas presents too. Of course my mother always got big blummer draws (underwear) and some perfume in a yellow box from us. Belks sold women's underwear in five pair colorful rolls every Christmas.
With three children in the house we got things we needed. Grandma and us saved everything, used everything and created out of the fruits of the earth. Literally.
So here we are saying we don't have enough. Yeah right. Well if you have two cars you have two more than I had my entire life growing up and into my adult life of 27 when finally bought a car of my own. I didn't need it. The bus and train ran regularly. Also my bike had a lot of miles on it too. I wasn't thinking green at the time and nor were my parents. They were thinking of providing what was needed and we weren't poor or living on life's edge. We had fun. I don't see people having fun today. They are working for two cars, a house like everyone in America needs to buy a house. Get over it all ready. Seriously....do you think 250 years ago enslaved people were thinking hmmmm I can't wait to be free to go out and buy me a house, Wii and spend nine dollars to see a horrible movie the day after Thanksgiving? NOT
I'm done rambling and of course like my life this goes many places, open ended and what is the purpose of it all. You figure it out. I'm just writing what I feel and laughing because you are probably sitting at work some where hating your job but you got to pay the car note and house note plus clothes and gym fees and food and etc.... Walking is free and parks are free and running in parks is free too. Nature is my gym. Try it. Oh yeah don't hate the messenger hate the game that's got you going in circles and only taking a time out two weeks out of the year.
To my peoples that get this I found the perfect coffee shop across from Southeastern Louisiana University that doesn't have flies.
